For some time commercial drivers have been believing the myth that enforcement authorities like DVSA could remotely access your vehicles tachograph information.
Smart tachographs can do some clever things but revealing it’s drivers activities and driving hours records is not one of them.
It’s believed that a policy paper named DVSA digital data and technology strategy 2019, implied that the technology was imminent ! Whilst drivers hours rules and regulation are designed for safety reasons and to combat driver fatigue I’m sure that the DVSA didn’t have a problem debunking this myth. In short – if an enforcement officer was to pull along side a vehicle fitted with a tachograph he cannot download that units data. This needs to be a physical undertaking from the unit itself.

I still think we should ask a DVSA officer, to fact check this.
